We offer hundreds of styles of frame molding, from Zen simple black or white to more traditional ornate golds and silvers. We have colored metal frames, modern float frames for canvases, broad plein air frames, and shadow box frames. We have modern clean finished hardwoods such as cherry, walnut, maple and ash. But the molding is only one aspect to consider when choosing a frame.
Matting
At Frameworks of Ojai, we use only archival materials when matting and mounting your treasured artwork. Most mat boards available at craft or hobby stores is, or will turn, acidic, even if it’s marked as ‘acid-free’. In order for a board to remain acid-free over time, it must either be made of cotton (rag-board), or if it is made of wood pulp, it must have the lignin (the acidic causing compound) removed. All our boards are conservation or archival quality.

Glass
We offer several different types of glazing:
- Conservation Clear Glass (UV filtering)
- Museum Glass (UV filtering and anti-reflective)
- Acrylic (shatterproof and lightweight)
- Conservation Acrylic (also UV filtering)
- Museum Acrylic (anti-scratch, anti-static, anti-reflective and UV filtering)
Artworks, especially prints, are subject to fading when exposed to light. It’s best to use a UV filtering glazing, but no artwork should be hung in direct sunlight. Oil or acrylic paintings do not need glass to protect them from dust, however very valuable works are always in need of protection from light, which is one reason museums often put their masterpieces behind glazing. If you know you will be shipping a work of art, it is best to use Conservation or Optium Museum Acrylic because they are lightweight and very difficult to break.
