We have colored metal frames, modern float frames for canvases, broad plein air frames, and shadow box frames. We have modern clean finished hardwoods such as cherry, walnut, maple and ash. Most mat boards available at craft or hobby stores is, or will turn, acidic, even if it&#8217;s marked as &#8216;acid-free&#8217;. In order for a board to remain acid-free over time, it must either be made of cotton (rag-board), or if it is made of wood pulp, it must have the lignin (the acidic causing compound) removed. It&#8217;s best to use a UV filtering glazing, but no artwork should be hung in direct sunlight. Oil or acrylic paintings do not need glass to protect them from dust, however very valuable works are always in need of protection from light, which is one reason museums often put their masterpieces behind glazing.
